![]() Chironomids were still alive and squirming full energy after being cut out. Lots of chironomids and small mullusks and clams they've been feeding on. Definitely not the pigeon/wab jumbo strains.Īttached a pic of the stomach content for science. I also noticed the whites in this lake were plentiful but small. They were definitely feeding something off the bottom but completely ignoring my presentation. The longest single movement of a tagged whitefish ever recorded was 388 kilometres (240 miles), from Fort McMurray to the north. A large spawning migration enters the Athabasca Delta in late summer, moving upstream in the Athabasca River. In the afternoon while having the cam down, I saw a whitefish swim right by the camera sucking the sand off the bottom but no strikes on my rig. Lake whitefish spawn from September through January in water two to four metres (6.5 to 13 feet) in depth. Ended up catching and releasing 20x 6-8in perch before shifting the attention back to whites. ![]() Decided to try the sunken island near the bay and caught nothing but small perch. The wind then picked up and the surface activities stopped. ![]() popular sport fish, but the lake also contains cisco, lake whitefish, burbot, suckers and forage fish. Throughout the next 2-3 hours there were tonnes surfacing all around me but the fishing was slow, landed 4 whites total with the 4th one being a baby that was released (pic attached). excellent job describing lakes throughout Alberta. ![]() Decided to pull the anchor and move to where they were surfacing, changed the color of my WW and within 10 minutes landed the first white (13 FOW). No whites but I did notice a lot of them surfacing slightly shallower than where I was. Every 2-3 minutes a small school of 5-6 perch would swim by and up to my camera before swimming away. Dropped the camera down and noticed sandy bottom, no weeds. First drop of the rig I landed a tiny perch. Started off at 8AM in a small but deep bay right beside the boat launch and found myself in 24 FOW. Decided a change of pace and try a different lake up north. Beautiful sunny day out with a light breeze.
